Treatment For Lines And Wrinkles (Botox Injections)

At Chamonix Clinic, our highly qualified and skilled therapist is Harley Street trained in the treatment of lines and wrinkles and is fully trained to an advanced practitioner level

What causes facial Lines and wrinkles

Facial lines are caused by repeated use of the facial muscles of expression, for example frowning, squinting scrunching up of the nose and laughter lines as they are commonly known around the eyes. As we age and we begin to loose our collagen and elastin the lines go from a dynamic state, which is they disappear when the movement stops, to a static state. The static state is when the wrinkle or line stays permanently.

What can be done to eradicate lines and wrinkles?

For almost 20 years now botulinum toxin (more commonly known as Botox) has been used by medical practitioners to treat these lines and wrinkles and also to treat muscle spasticity and facial spasms.
Botulinum toxin works by inhibiting the release of a chemical called acetylcholine which is a chemical that the nerves produce to cause muscles to contract. The toxin is injected into the muscle at certain points to temporarily put the muscle to sleep. When the muscle is put to sleep it stops the movement and thus the lines and wrinkles appear much improved.

How long does the treatment last?

The treatment can last up to 6 months depending on the individual and the strength of the muscles etc. Often the habit of frowning and or squinting can be broken and then longer use from the product appears to occur.
After the treatment with botulinum toxin you will notice an improvement after a few days, it is not immediate and the full effects can take up to 2 weeks.

What does the treatment involve?

When you initially inquire about this treatment, our therapist will answer any questions that you have on the phone and you will be invited to come in for a consultation. You can opt to have the treatment immediately following the consultation or you can come back at a later date if you prefer.
The most usual places for botulinum injections are the upper face, for example frown lines, forehead lines and crows feet. It can also be used it tiny amounts to treat lower face lines.
A full history will be taken and your treatment plan will be discussed with you. You then make your decision on which areas you would like treated. Photographs will be taken of the areas to be treat so that before and after comparisons can be made.
Prior to the treatment being given you will have the option to have cream applied to numb the areas to be injected to help minimise any discomfort. Some people choose this and some do not.
The injections themselves are given with a very fine needle and you will be looked after and supported by our highly trained therapist before, during and after your treatment.
You will be asked to return 2 weeks after the initial treatment where if the muscles that have been treat are not fully asleep then a little extra will be given.
There are certain medical conditions that may make it not possible for you to have treatment with botulinum toxin but this will be discussed either over the phone or at the consultation. It is not recommended that pregnant or breastfeeding ladies have this treatment.
We are always happy to answer any questions that you may have and pride ourselves on our after care.
